ABOUT THE SOUTH AFRICAN MINT

The South African Mint (SAM) was established in 1890 after the discovery of gold in the South African territory. Throughout history, the mint was annexed to the British Empire, becoming a branch of the Royal Mint from 1890 to 1923.
