This is the first 1/2 oz coin in the Royal Canadian Mint's O Canada series which focuses on iconic Canadian images. This coin celebrates the wonder of the igloo. Designed by Canadian artist Yves Berube the reverse of the coin depicts an Inuit man lifting a freshly cut block of ice in front of his igloo. Working with great dexterity and remarkable precision in sub-zero temperatures, he constructs his snow home and then cuts blocks out of the interior floor both to increase it's size and to build the rounded tunnel for the entrance that helps protect against the extreme temperatures. The border features the words "Canada 10 Dollars 2014" and the outline is reminiscent of an igloo as viewed from above.
The obverse of the coin prominently displays the Susanna Blunt effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and the words "Elizabeth II D.G. Regina"
