This is the first design for 2014 of the popular Land Down Under series.
Australia is a continent with a rich heritage and history.
The famed gold rush of 1851 triggered a significant transformation for the once remote penal colony into a world gold producer.
The population and economy exploded almost overnight and new towns, cities, infrastructure, culture and economy sprang to life.
Despite gold having been found all across the continent, it wasn't until 1893 with the discovery of gold at Kalgoorlie by Patrick Hannan that Australia finally saw the beginnings of the growth in mining that would make it the world's largest gold producer at the turn of the century, with half of the output coming from Western Australia.
The obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley Effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and the words "Elizabeth II Australia 2014 1 Dollar" and the artist's initials.
The reverse features a design by Wade Robinson that depicts a prospector panning for gold on the banks of a coloured river scene within the coloured outline of the map shape of Australia.
The words "The Land Down Under 1 oz 999 Silver" the traditional Perth Mint "P" Mintmark and the artist's initials are also engraved on the reverse.
The case is packaged within a beautifully illustrated shipper and is accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity.
With a limited mintage of only 5,000 this coin is sure to sell out quickly!
