This charming creation forms part of the Royal Mint's Shēngxiào Collection, which began in 2014, to celebrate the 12 animals of the Chinese Zodiac and Britain's own multicultural heritage.
The coin's reverse artfully incorporates images symbolic of the perceived personality traits of persons born under the sign of the pig: a homestead at night, with a warm fire burning inside, suggests calm and belonging, while the buxom pig with her piglets symbolises, family, loyalty and generosity.
This scene is set on a field of intricate, ribbon textured design and accompanied by the title of the coin and the year of issue, as well as details of weight, metal content and purity.
The obverse feature is none other than Jody Clark's detailed rendering of Elizabeth II in profile, set on a field of micro-engraved, dot texturing.
Also on the obverse, Elizabeth II's regal title and the coin's denominational value.
The pig is the last Shēngxiào in the Chinese Zodiacal cycle and after the Year of the Pig in 2019, we will begin again with the Rat in 2020.
Celebrate the rich symbolism of this ancient divinatory science and diversify your portfolio with a 1 oz 2019 British Royal Mint Lunar Year of the Pig silver coin today.
