This beautiful silver proof coin is the fifth release in the endangered species series.
The Pygmy Hippopotamus has had it's natural habitat greatly reduced over the last 100 years due to deforestation.
They have also been vulnerable to poaching as well as falling victim to human conflicts.
It is estimated that today there are fewer than 3000 Pygmy Hippopotamus left in the world today.
The obverse of the coin features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and the words "Elizabeth II NIUE Two Dollars 2015" and the artist's initials.
The reverse of the coin pictures a Pygmy Hippopotamus with it's mouth open standing in the jungle beside water.
The hippo's shimmering image is reflected in the water, and the mirror-like finish of the coin is truly beautiful.
This coin has a strictly limited mintage of 2,000, and is a wonderful addition to any wildlife-themed collection.
This coin comes packaged in a rustic wooden crate, with a printed brown box and encapsulated in a coin capsule.
